交流输电线路用复合外套避雷器是一种性能优异的过电压保护设备，广泛用于保护输电线路，尤其是在雷电活动频繁、土壤电阻率较大、巡线困难的山区，可大大降低输电线路的雷害事故。
线路避雷器可分带串联间隙和无间隙两类，带串联间隙避雷器又可分为纯空气间隙和绝缘子间隙两种。
